There are limited edition toys from various artists and makers such as Bounty Hunter, KAWS, PUSHEAD, SECRETBASE, Arial Martian, Tokidoko, Mars 1, groovision, Max Toys, Tim Biskup,Gargamel and others. Resently (as of the last 10yrs approx) there has been a explotion in the art toys-designer toys, art toys urban vinyl, designer vinyl, call it what you wish. They're essentually toys for kids of all ages that are designed manufactured produced, or even distributed by artists / artisans. The quantity produced is small, so the price is much greater than of average everyday toys (what is pictured are toys from the few $100's to the $1000's). Then again the prices are not astronomical because for a starter there are $20 - $30 Bandai godzilas for anyone to buy. The genre of artist multiples- the practice of creating numbered mutiples- has been around for a while in the form of lithographs ect. lt's current incarnation as a art toy is a hybrit and feeds on many elements. But perhaps the greater distinguishing factor is who has hijacted the means of production, and that's designers themselves. The great appeal of designer vinyl, or art toys, is the effect they have on genre boundraries, rendering them mallable. "l could go on and onbut l won't"
